Day 5: Protect Your Purpose
Proverbs 5:1-2
My son, pay attention to my wisdom,
turn your ear to my words of insight,
that you may maintain discretion
and your lips may preserve knowledge.
Principle
Wisdom gives you the discretion to maintain your purpose.
We identify ourselves as FivestarMan because of the five purposes of authentic manhood. Solomon, our adviser, instructs us to listen to wisdom so that we may “maintain discretion.”
Discretion means that we preserve and protect our purpose. As men, we have an enemy who is devising schemes and crafting seductions for us to surrender our manhood. By being discreet we are able to avoid most of these traps in life. Being discreet is different from being secretive. Our goal is to have discernment and appropriateness for every occasion.
Wisdom will also give us a filter on our language. By being discreet, we will also weigh carefully what we say and how we say it.
