Day 105: Pious Posers

Proverbs 15:8

God can’t stand pious poses, but he delights in genuine prayers.

Principle

God does not entertain lies in our prayers.

Despite the popular notion to the contrary, men are overwhelming spiritual – in fact, 9 out 10 say that they believe in God; however, 2 out of 6 attend church. Part of the disconnect is that, for the most part, men have an aversion toward church. I think that men’s distance from the church is primarily because most men have experienced or have the notion that the church is irrelevant, ineffective, or even irreverent. Yes, irreverent. Not because the church doesn’t have its established religious liturgy, but because men have a natural antipathy for pious posing.

Men do not speak piously but practically. Men do not worship liturgy but in the language of the common man. Men relate in the daily commute.

The good news for us is that God delights in the genuine as well. He values the practical prayer. He enjoys the daily commute with man. God is not moved by the hypocritical worship of men, nor is He entertained by sacrificial lip service. The prayers that we speak, exhaled with true and genuine emotion from our hearts are the fragrance of authentic manhood that He admires.
