Day 11: Set the Standard

Proverbs 11:1

The LORD detests dishonest scales,
but accurate weights find favor with him.

Principle

The standard that you use to measure is the accurate weight that you should use for everyone else.

In the business culture corruption is epidemic. Bureaucrats are imposing laws upon others which they have exempted themselves from observing. Street market thieves have moved from the street curbs to marbleized offices, but still they’re just common thieves.

We shouldn’t measure our success by what we gain in a dishonest transaction. We should hold ourselves to a higher standard. Was this deal equable? Did both parties receive mutual benefit?

This is especially true in dealing with people who are in the weaker position. The manner in which we treat the weaker person among us is the true measure of our character.

This is important because there will be transactions when you will be the weaker person. How do you want and expect to be treated?

You set the standard. The measure that you use will be measured back to you.
