Day 14: Cowboys Wear Boots For A Reason

Proverbs 14:4

Without oxen, a stable stays clean,
but you need a strong ox for a large harvest.

Principle

You can have a clean barn or you can get something done.

I grew up on a small ranch with cattle, horses, pigs, and chickens. One thing you learn when you’re raising animals is that they’re messy. There’s a full array of odors to fill your senses. The day to clean out the stables was always a particularly fun day. I quickly learned that cowboys wear boots for a reason.

However, in order to have the benefits, you also have to put up with the manure.

The same is true for any other job. Along with the benefits of workers, which are the strengths that they bring to your table, you must also put up with the messes.

When you are dealing with people, they’re going to have the residue of their lives on them. Some of it may not be pleasant. So, the choice becomes do you want a very clean environment or do you want the strength that comes with messy people?
