Day 153: Romancing Spirits

Proverbs 2:18

Surely her house leads down to death and her paths to the spirits of the dead.

Principle

The seductress is a spirit, and she leads to death.

As you read, The Daily Champion and the corresponding chapter in Proverbs, you find a few subjects become repetitious – adultery is one that Solomon can’t emphasize enough, it seems. It may be because he knew the story of his father and mother and the sting of their affair.  The affair of David and Bathsheba continues to be an example of betrayal and serves as a warning of the collateral damage that adultery causes.

It would be easy to write it off as a bored man being attracted to a bathing woman. Most people chalk up adultery as a demonstration of flesh overcoming morality. However, there’s more to the story. There’s always something working behind the scenes instigating the whole affair.

There is a filthy spirit behind the temptation. It whispers in the ear, “You can have her. You want to gaze into her seductive eyes. You want to taste the honey on her lips. You want to caress the softness of her skin. She is desire.”

It’s an insidious plot – it is demonic – a fallen spirit entices adultery. It’s romancing spirits. The seductress is a spirit – and it is evil. When a man is taking this path, he is romancing the spirits of the dead.
