Day 224: Cutting Words

Proverbs 12:18

Some people make cutting remarks, but the words of the wise bring healing.

Principle

Words can cut like a knife. Some comments can do surgery.

Very few men realize the incredible potential of harm or health that their words can cause. Amazingly, we are very flippant when it comes to our speech. If we speak rashly, the wound can be irreparable. However, if we talk with precision, our words can bring healing.

For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. – Hebrews 4:12

The writer of Hebrews pinpoints the precision of God’s Word – the ability to divide even the soul and spirit, much less the joint and marrow, even able to reveal the inner thoughts and desires of a person.

To be transparent, I have matured in my use of words – I took pride in my ability to cut people with my words who displayed meanness or arrogance toward me or someone that I loved. I’ve worked hard to use more wisdom with my words. I want people to be encouraged and strengthened by what I say.

Remember:

We need to be very careful when using words - let's be careful with the sharp words - they can be dangerous. Click To Tweet
