Day 235: Invest Wisdom In Your Children

Proverbs 23:24

The father of godly children has cause for joy—what a pleasure to have wise children.

Principle

The reward of fathering well is witnessing his children make wise decisions.

It is impossible to measure the joy and pleasure it is to see your children make wise decisions.

Recently, one of my daughters made a life-changing decision. When asked about it, I responded that I’d invested a couple of decades raising my daughter for this occasion. That proved to me that she is carefully weighing her decisions. I’ve seen her make wise choices contrary to her feelings.

How do you raise a child to make wise decisions? I believe that you teach them to forecast the benefits or consequences of a decision. Let them play out the scenarios with you without your judgment while they’re talking it out. Then ask a question or two to help navigate their discernment.

Also, it is good to draw an example from the Word of God and show the consequences of bad decisions. Contrast that with a personal example of how you navigated a decision and the benefits.
