So don’t waste your time on a scoffer; all you’ll get for your pains is abuse.
Don’t waste your time on the minutia of mockers.
In my line of work, I am exposed to different types of people. I have learned the hard way that you can’t reason with some people, especially those who are cynical and arrogant mockers. I’ve had more than a few instances when I have made a statement that sets people off on rants of wrath. At first, I would try to reason with them, state my case, support my conclusions with scripture, and try to convince them of my point of view. I’ve found that there are a lot of people that simply won’t accept correction.
If for some reason, I misspoke or didn’t communicate clearly, I try to reword my argument; however, if they’re just scoffing at me and going personal in their attack, I don’t waste my time. I have too much to do than to be sidetracked by their minutia.
Mockers don’t argue from principle—they mimic voices, transform into caricatures and always attack personally rather than substantially. They use straw man arguments, aligning you with their imaginable opponent. It is a shallow form of debate, but that is all they have.
Go on and reason with those who are wise and they will be even wiser. Spend your energy on hearers not mockers.
Don’t get down into the minutia of arguments.
