Day 26: Don’t Fear the Reaper

Proverbs 26:2

You have as little to fear from an undeserved curse as from the dart of a wren or the swoop of a swallow.

Principle

Don’t allow birds to make a nest in your hair.

Some men are very superstitious – they have omens, lucky charms, foreboding, or mix a little religion with it, and they have dead saints. You don’t need any of that.

Our advisor tells us that we have little to fear when it comes to superstition and witchcraft. We don’t have to light candles, pray to statutes, or crawl on our knees to protect us from swooping birds.

Men have authority, and we’re not subject to demonic activity and witchcraft. Don’t allow yourself to be confused or fearful. You’re a man – stand up – put your shoulders back and face your fears.

Recently, I traveled to the town of San Cristobal, Mexico. It is a tourist mecca for people worldwide, especially Europeans who come there primarily for a type of new-age – spiritualism, mixed with the ancient Mayan culture. I was amazed at the appeal that superstition exercised control over people.

Our superstitions may not be overt, but we still should be in control of our belief system – we have faith in God, and Christ has redeemed us from the curse. (Galatians 3:13) So, don’t fear the reaper.
