Day 274: Don’t Be Troubled By Fear

Proverbs 1:33

All who listen to me will live in peace, untroubled by fear of harm.

Principle

Just because someone has a voice doesn’t mean they should be heard.

With 24-hour cable news scouring the world for disastrous information, it is pretty easy to drift into fear. I know I’ve had to become diligent to turn off the news and only catch up on it occasionally. I’ve made a conscious effort to turn off the news radio and talking heads and turn on the audio of the Word of God (I use YouVersion). I’ve also gathered a good mix of podcasts of good preaching.

Listening to the Word of God is more than just a good habit because the Word of God is the source of all life. Think about that – the Word made all things; nothing was made except by the Word. So, it is like oxygen and water – you can’t live without them – yet, the Word is the source for those elements. That’s how important the Word is to us.

The Word gave life to everything that was created,
and his life brought light to everyone. – John 1:4

The light is what extinguishes the darkness. In other words, the fear that can come upon you by hearing so much bad press can be replaced by hearing the Word.
