Day 29: Don’t Be Stiff-Necked

Proverbs 29:1

Whoever remains stiff-necked after many rebukes
will suddenly be destroyed—without remedy.

Principle

If you keep heading in this direction you will get to where you’re going.

Have you argued with someone completely wrong about a subject, yet they would not yield their argument no matter how much evidence you had to prove the case?

If you read the Bible often, you see a recurring theme – God makes his case for people to follow Him, worship Him only, trust His character, live under His blessing, etc. – yet, people regularly turn away from Him to follow worthless leaders, pursue unhealthy relationships, and worship false gods. It is a constant theme in scripture – people fail, God corrects, people are stiff-necked, God rebukes, people suffer – people repent, God forgives.

The word-picture for stiff-necked is someone who will not turn. They resist change. They’re difficult people to deal with. They perversely adhere to their own opinion, course, or purpose, despite reason, argument, or persuasion.

Don’t be the kind of person who refuses to take a warning. God is merciful. He sees the outcome of our obstinate ways and warns us of impending danger.

If you have a stiff neck, you need to loosen it up. Click To Tweet
