Day 293: Successful Plans Require Counsel

Proverbs 20:18

Plans succeed through good counsel; don’t go to war without wise advice.

Principle

Wisdom is found in the counsel of others.

One of the greatest leadership lessons I’ve ever seen is based on the counsel Moses’ father-in-law, Jethro, gave when he saw a line of people standing day-in-and-day-out to get Moses’ advice. Make no mistake about it; Moses was the only one who had the revelation from God on holy behavior and conduct.

The people had been slaves for hundreds of years. They had been controlled and manipulated, even tortured, to do precisely what they were told to do. Once they tasted freedom, their trained mentality struggled to know how to conduct themselves. Now, they’re free and don’t know how to live in their liberty.

Jethro approached Moses and said, “What are you accomplishing here? Why are you trying to do all this alone while everyone stands around you from morning till evening?” (Exodus 18)

Then Jethro gave the most amazing advice to Moses regarding leadership and organizational flow charts.

Here’s the takeaway from this Proverb: No one person has all wisdom. We need to seek counsel to lead and be effective in our efforts. Moses had spent face-to-face time with God, yet Jethro, his father-in-law, was the source of wisdom when it came time for a leadership lesson.

You used the same video two days in a row. You used Proverbs 19 as your verse and Proverbs 20 with your corresponding words below. I hope that you have a great day! I enjoy your presentations!

It is a year later and you have not corrected this problem of doing a video on Chapter 20 of Proverbs instead of Chapter 19 (Loyalty). Thank you for providing this lessons each day however!
