Proverbs 17:4

Evil people relish malicious conversation; the ears of liars itch for dirty gossip.

Principle

Those who speak to you about someone will soon speak about you to someone.

When someone gossips and relishes malicious conversation—It’s a sign of weak minds and insecure identities. That kind of language reveals darkness in a person’s heart and displays an ignorance of the power of words. The tongue has the power of life and death.

Words matter.

The confession of three words can transform a person’s identity from a sinner and into a saint. Three words, “Jesus is Lord.” Think about it—three words!

If any of our words matter than all of our words matter. We need to be mindful of what we say, not only about ourselves but also about others.

Gossip is the use of words to destroy the influence and reputation of a person. It is worse than stealing money, because money can be replaced; however, the words of gossip are feathers in the wind—you will never gather them back up.
