Day 45: The Test of Friendship
Proverbs 14:10
The person who shuns the bitter moments of friends will be an outsider at their celebrations.
Principle
Friends show their love in times of trouble, not in happiness.
As you go through life, there will be times of trial – everyone faces bumps in the road. It’s at that time that you will need to take notes. You will gain wisdom through the pain if you seek God. You will also have a test in your relationships.
Job discovered this the hard way. We saw how shameful his wife responded to his troubles (The Daily Champion Day 43). Now, let’s consider how his friends reacted to his troubles.
At the bedside of Job, his “friends” gathered around him and began to speak harsh and untruthful words about God and condemning remarks to Job.
When you go through difficult times – and we all do – that’s when you discover the list of real friendships – unfortunately, that list usually is a very short one.
So, when Job was healed and his wealth restored, the celebration had a shortlist of invitations, but it was a great time to honor good friends.
