Day 57: Don’t Bring Me Down

Proverbs 26:4

Don’t respond to the stupidity of a fool;
you’ll only look foolish yourself.

Principle

Don’t answer the fool.

Have you ever had a conversation with someone who will not listen to reason? They talk in circles. They go around and around a subject – never comprehending a solution. They raise their voice as if they are commanding attention. They lean forward – point fingers – and slap tables. They air their stupidity for all to see – they are foolish.

It is tempting to persuade them out of their vacuous thinking, but it will not do any good. They simply can’t reason with rational thinking. They’re “know-it-alls.”

What do you do in this case?

Nothing. Don’t answer the fool. Don’t respond. Doing so only brings you down to their level. It’s not worth it.

Remember:

When you try to talk sense to a fool he will call you foolish. Click To Tweet

    So true. You can only share with someone who wants to be shared with. I also think this is a great reminder to all of us to not be the fool. Listen & seek understanding.

    We have to be led by the Holy Spirit. I have a friend who feels he needs to put a tract in everyone’s hand, even those who say they are saved. Recently, he told me he heard his next door neighbor yelling at and berating his son. My friend went over in the middle of the heated rant, and asked if he could pray for him. He was dealing with a demon, and wasn’t aware of it’s presence. The man cursed him out, and threatened him with physical harm. Clearly the demon didn’t want prayer.
