Proverbs 15:4

Kind words heal and help;
cutting words wound and maim.

Speak kind and comforting words.

As men, we cannot underestimate the power of our words. Don’t brush this off as an extreme – this is one of the most important lessons that I’ve ever discovered. Words matter.

We need to build a partition between our mind and our tongue to allow a filter to inspect and approve words that we speak – they should be words that heal and help rather than wound and disfigure.

The prophet Zechariah was speaking with the LORD in a vision. After explaining a coming event upon the earth, the LORD turned to speak kind and comforting words to the angel who was accompanying him. (Zechariah 1:13)

This is so characteristic of the LORD who was concerned with a lower-ranking angel and how he needed to be comforted with kind words.

I grew up in an atmosphere of harsh, hurtful, and haunting words – curses, cussing, and disparaging words were the norm. I have a relative who has been maimed by those words – he has a deep wound of bitterness within him because of harmful words. Decades later, those words still ring within his ears as if he had just heard them.

Our words can have the opposite effect as well. I recall words that my High School principal spoke to me upon graduation, his words have continued to be a lasting encouragement to me.

We should be very considerate to those who are within our hearing.

    With all the negative garbage going on in my workplace that I won’t go into cuz of too many words, I realize each morning when somebody ask me how I’m doing I would say just trying to get through. And I realized that phrase is not inspiring in any way shape or form. Amazing that this morning I decided that I’m going to purpose to say I am blessed and highly favored. Thank you Neil your words today were right on the money and an absolute confirmation that this is how God wants us to respond to things even though we’re not feeling it in the natural we can feel it in the spirit.
