How Big Is Your World?

How Big Is Your World?
January 2, 2010 Neil Kennedy

Your world is only as big as the trails that you run.

Unless you are willing to travel new roads you will never see different landscapes.  Men are creatures of habit.  We like the comfort of the trail.  But if you’re going to have new adventures in life—if you’re going to experience new levels in business—if you’re going to have new relationships—you must enlarge your world.

“I’m giving you every square inch of the land you set your foot on just as I promised…” -God speaking to Joshua.

A friend of mine loves to fly planes. He has diligently pursued his pilots license. While preparing to have a weekday excursion another man sneered at him and commented, “What kind of work do you do to be able to afford taking a work day to fly?”

My friend responded, “Sir, with all due respect, what I do is none of your business. How I spend my money is none of your business. I don’t work for you. My money is not yours to judge. I suggest that you should not envy my life just because you’re unhappy with yours.”

Don’t envy another man’s world just because you hate yours.  If you want something different in life, do something that you haven’t done.

When you open your mind to change, you enlarge your world. -Neil Kennedy

Your mind has unlimited capacity, yet it will only expand by your willingness to learn. Leaders are readers and listeners are learners. When you hear or read something and meditate on it—aligning your thoughts with the Word of God—you are acting on a powerful biblical principle.

  • IDEAS COME FROM OBSERVATION OF YOUR ENVIRONMENT
John F. Kennedy said, “Walk slowly through the crowd.”  It is important to make observations when you are going through life.  Be aware of your surroundings.  Pick up on things in the room.  Analyze the processes of people.
  • IDEAS COME BY LOOKING FOR SOLUTIONS TO PROBLEMS
Most people who see problems say, “This isn’t right.  Someone should do something.”  Your response should be, “This isn’t right.  What can I do to fix it?  How will people compensate me for my idea?”
  • IDEAS THAT SOLVE OTHER PEOPLE’S PROBLEMS CREATE A REVENUE SOURCE
Years ago, every man shaved with dual blades, worn and rusty until Mr. Gillette cut himself.  His idea of disposable blades made him millions.
  • IDEAS ARE NOT UNCOMMON
But the person who acts upon an idea is uncommon.  How many times have you walked into Wal-Mart to see a product on the shelves that you once had the brilliant idea to create?  Someone else took action upon their idea while you explained away why you didn’t do it.  I call it the Modecai principle, “If you don’t do it, someone else will rise up to.  Only you will perish.”
  • ONE IDEA CAN GIVE YOU AN INCOME FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE
The music industry will gross $10 Billion this year.  Think about it.  A person writes a poetic rhythm and makes a lifetime of royalties!

What idea have you had that you have yet to act upon?
