PASTOR & KEY LEADER SESSION 3
The Story of a Man
Not long after we launched FivestarMan, I bumped into a businessman that I hadn’t seen in several years. He asked if we could grab some coffee and catch up. When we did meet for coffee, he shared with me his story—life had taken it’s toll— a divorce, an affair, an child from a one night stand, drug abuse, alcohol, shady business deals—he wanted to have a restart with God.
I talked to him about what I had learned about authentic manhood. We zeroed in on the root of his failed relationship with God, with his wife, his businesses. Sitting in the court of Starbucks, we bowed our heads and prayed together to confess Jesus as Lord. I mentored him through the process of digging into the Word of God for personal correction and application to his life. I also shared with him how God wants to relate to him in the daily commute.
Champions do daily what the average do occasionally.
We’ve encouraged men to relate to God as they’re going to work, focusing on the first assignment that God gave them, asking Him to bless the work of their hands. Then as they’re returning home, we coach them to focus on their families, how they can cultivate their wives and encourage their children.
Adam walked with God in the cool of the day. Enoch walked so closely with God that he did not experience death. Noah walked as a righteous man in a violent culture. Abraham walked with the leading of God’s voice to a new inheritance. Moses walked barefooted on a mountain. David walked in death valley. When Jesus came to the earth, he walked with men.
As I shared more and more of the new understanding of the five purposes, my friend developed spiritual disciplines, refocused on his marriage, and sought to make things right with his illegitimate daughter. It hasn’t been easy—he has faced ups and downs dealing with the residue of his sins, but he has also grown as a man.
FivestarMan 300 mentors men in a very powerful and personal way. We will deliver a word of encouragement every day through The Daily Champion, to the devices they hold in the palm of their hands.
Encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. – Hebrews 3:13
As we coach the 5 Capable Men to engage the 10 men they meet with in the huddle, this daily habit will strengthen the men and encourage their authenticity—manhood—purposes.
Next, I want to share with you how others have made FivestarMan the culture of their men and how it strengthened their churches.
