The Capable Man: Session 5
The Pursuit—Where Are We Going?
I pursue as my goal the prize promised by God’s heavenly call in Christ Jesus.
If we don’t know where we are going, any road will do. However, if we have a destiny, narrow is the road.
When we focus on our purposes, we cast off the things that constrain us. A man with intentional direction doesn’t have time for trivial pursuits.
Decisions are much easier to make when you have directional intent.
By now, I hope you’re convinced that we’re not randomly attempting to reach men. We are very intentional with the message of FivestarMan and committed to honoring the protocol of authority, but also have ordered steps to pursue.
So, let me explain what we’re pursuing and how it will set up a sequence that will reach men.
This year we will plan and execute three themed Encounters in your church for men to corporately worship God and experience His empowerment.
Each Encounter will have a theme that communicates authentic manhood. We will talk much more about the Encounters, but right now I want you to understand that Encounters breakdown the year into three or four-month periods. They will serve as benchmarks, so to speak, that we are pursuing.
As we pursue each of the Encounters, we will coach you toward them. Every detail has been carefully and prayerfully planned. I am sure that we will learn and make tweaks along the way, but it is important that we stay focused and work toward the goal.
It will be very tempting to stray off track. Men will come to you with ideas. They may be great ideas, but it is important to keep aligned with our purpose.
My steps have stayed on your path;
I have not wavered from following you.
A few years ago, Neil Kennedy was the keynote speaker at a men’s conference. During a break he had the opportunity to sit down with the co-founder of Promise Keepers, Dr. Dave Wardell. They discussed several issues that the PK conferences faced as they became the leading voice to men at the time. Dr. Wardell shared with Neil that one of the greatest challenge for the leadership was to stay grounded with the message and focused on the original intent, which was to disciple men from immaturity to maturity in Christ.
We must keep our eye on the ball.
Let me be clear, the Encounters are not the end game, but are Biblically-patterned steps toward the objective. Again, we will talk more about this, but please understand that FivestarMan is not and never will be driven by events. Events are fine on occasions but are only supplementary, not the focus.
