Renew Your Mind: Escaping the Culture of Lies

We are living in a culture saturated with lies—an age of great delusion where truth is mocked, and deception is celebrated. Jesus warned us plainly: “You are of your father the devil… for he is a liar and the father of lies” (John 8:44). When you willingly choose to believe a lie, it is no longer mere deception. It becomes conception. You are not just tricked—you are impregnated with the enemy’s nature and begin to bear his fruit. Many today are willingly embracing falsehoods about identity, morality, purpose, and reality. In doing so, they are not innocent victims; they are becoming sons of the father of lies.

But there is a way out.

The Lord has not left us defenseless. He calls us to reject the lies and renew our minds with His unchanging truth. Romans 12:2 commands, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Transformation begins the moment you stop conceiving lies and start conceiving truth. Here are 5 biblical steps to renew your mind and think right in the midst of this great delusion:

• Submission — Choose to come under God’s authority. The first and most powerful act is surrender. You must deliberately place yourself under the lordship of Jesus Christ and declare His Word as final authority—no matter how loudly your feelings or culture protest. Like Jesus in Gethsemane, cry out, “Not my will, but Yours be done” (Luke 22:42). In a world that bows to self and sin, submission to God is radical rebellion against the lies. This single choice breaks the enemy’s claim on your mind.
• Elimination — Let go of anything that competes with His truth. You cannot hold God’s truth while cradling the devil’s lies. Ruthlessly eliminate every opinion, emotion, habit, media source, and relationship that exalts itself against the knowledge of God (2 Corinthians 10:5). Put off the old self with its deceitful desires (Ephesians 4:22). Delete, disconnect, and distance yourself from the voices feeding you delusion. What you refuse to eliminate will continue to conceive death in your life.
• Decision — Settle it once and for all: you will not veer from what God says. Make an irreversible decision. Joshua-style resolve: “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15). In this hour of widespread delusion, half-hearted Christianity will fail. Draw a line in the sand. Decide today that God’s Word is truth and every man a liar (Romans 3:4). When the culture pushes lies about gender, marriage, justice, or eternity, your settled decision must stand immovable.
• Continuation — This isn’t a one-time choice. It’s a daily commitment. Renewal demands perseverance. Jesus said we must deny ourselves and take up our cross daily (Luke 9:23). Every morning, feed your spirit Scripture before the world feeds you lies. Stay aligned through prayer, worship, and obedience. The great delusion grows stronger each day—only those who continue in God’s Word will stand firm till the end.
• Reception — Be open to letting God’s Word transform you from the inside out. As you walk in these steps, the living and active Word of God takes root and begins its holy work. Receive it with humility. Let it reprove, correct, train, and reshape every part of you (2 Timothy 3:16-17). The same power that conceives death through lies can now conceive life through truth. Be open. God is ready to transform you completely.

It all starts in your mind, and it all changes when you choose truth over the great delusion.
