Day 15 | Philanthropic in Cause

Sow A Seed

“Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”  2 Corinthians 9:7

In the Bible, giving money is likened to sowing a seed as a farmer.  A farmer knows that in order to have a harvest for his family that he must first sow a seed into the ground.  A farmer also knows the quantity of the harvest is determined by the amount of seed that he sows.

We should approach giving financially as a farmer approaches sowing seed. Farmers do not reluctantly sow seed, nor do they flippantly scatter the seed.  They are careful to sow the precious commodity into good soil.

The same is true for our giving.  We should not approach giving without careful planning.  Don’t give out of compulsory persuasion, which means out of a guilt motivation.  Our gifts should be expressed with clear joy and happiness that we are able to do so.

KEYS TO GIVING FINANCIALLY

  • A Confident Heart – you feel very confident where you are giving.
  • A Considerate Heart – you have examined what you are giving for and trust its worthiness.
  • A Heart of Gratitude – you are able to express thankfulness while you are giving.
  • A Heart of Generosity – you are willing to give in good measure without fear of loss.

Your gift is a seed that is sown into the lives of others.  It will produce a harvest.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE

Gather up all of your loose change.  This is money that you were not saving, investing, or using for your present needs.  Now, take it and sow it into a good cause.  Express joy by giving it because it was “worthless” to you before but now it is “priceless” to your future.

Today I gave my change to a war vet. I know that this was not fully what was in mind, but it was something God wanted me to do. I’m not even sure how much was given. The guy was extatic though. Made me feel better about my self.

This one is fun. I enjoy helping others and lifting another also gives me a lift for the day.
